Mike joined LPFA in September 2006, having previously held the County Treasurer role at Surrey County Council since 1998. In all, Mike spent 25 years with Surrey, holding a variety of posts in finance specialising in overall financial planning and education and social services accounting. Brought up on Teesside Mike came south to University College London where he gained a degree in Math’s and then trained as a CIPFA accountant with the London Borough of Westminster and worked for the London Boroughs of Southwark and Hammersmith and Fulham before joining Surrey. He is a member of the CIPFA Pensions Panel, regularly chair the NAPF Local Authority Forum round table and is a former Honorary Secretary of the Society of County Treasurers. He is frequently invited to speak on local government finance and pensions issues at national conferences. Mikes drivers have been described as "hurry up, be perfect" and he wants to pursue excellence in everything LPFA does. Outside work Mike is a keen tennis player and avid supporter and season ticket holder at Chelsea Football Club.
Vanessa joined the LPFA on the 19th March 2007 and brought with her over 28 years experience in managing some of the UK’s largest investment funds. Her last position was for the Abbey National Asset Managers where she was the Director of Institutional Business and then its Global Equity Director. At the LPFA she is responsible for directing the work of three in-house investment staff as well as having responsibilities for the Authority’s investment strategy and assets of over £3.7 billion (at May 2007).
Susan Martin joined the LPFA in April 2007 as Director of Organisational Development with a brief to work across the Authority to review, shape and position LPFA. She has over 20 years experience in HR, governance, communications and organisational development working in a variety of sectors. Past roles include Director of HR and Corporate Affairs for Queen Victoria NHS Foundation Trust, where she enabled the specialist trust to embrace the opportunities offered by foundation status and raised its profile; Director of Organisational Development for Cancer Research UK where she was the people and organisational development lead for the successful merger reducing costs and increasing income and Director of Corporate Resources, High Weald Housing Association where she was credited with bringing focus, reducing costs and developing new business initiatives. Susan also works with a number of private and public sector clients in a consultancy capacity.
Annemarie attained APSA qualification before that organisation was combined with IPP. Beginning in pensions in 1982, she worked for the GLC and the London Residuary Body before joining the LPFA at its inception. In a former role she has coordinated the Authority’s successful Investors in People and Charter Mark applications. Annemarie has overall responsibility for the Specialist Services area of LPFA comprising two Central Processing teams, the Technical and Training team and the Staff and Pensioner payroll team. Annemarie also leads on, and has extensive experience in, the areas of non investment valuation matters and admitted bodies.
Starting his career in Merseyside CC, Jeff worked for the London Boroughs of Sutton, Lewisham and Croydon before moving to the City of Westminster, where he was Pensions Manager. He is currently responsible for the LPFA’s business development initiatives, client liaison functions, marketing and communications, ongoing IT development, facilities management, equalities and governance send performance.
Mike joined the GLC in 1982 after completing an honours degree in Management Science. Since that time he has been involved in all aspects of Local Government Pensions. Mike has been responsible for the day to day administration of a number of LPFA contracts including Brent and Bexley, and now has managerial responsibility for all day to day pension administration services.
Adrian joined the LPFA in June 2008 as the Head of Finance following a period with the organisation on secondment from the GLA. He has responsibility for all financial matters, and is the statutory Chief Financial Officer. Adrian started his career in central government working at the then Departments of Health and Social Security and the Serious Fraud Office. He moved to the Metropolitan Police Service in 1996 as part of a programme to improve financial management in the organisation, including the implementation of Resource Accounting. He then joined the Greater London Authority on its creation in 2000, working on the Mayor’s now £9 billion budget. Whilst at the GLA Adrian served for nine months with the Royal Engineers in 2003, and also undertook a secondment as part of a team to set up key organisations to prepare for the Olympics in London in 2012. Adrian has an MA from Leeds Business School and is a member of CIMA and CIPFA.
